    Douglas fir, Monocoat

This puzzle of a feature wall was a joy to design, build and install. Thrilling to see it all come together in this gorgeous apartment lobby. Believe it or not, there are over 5,000 hand-made wood blocks on the curved concierge wall! There are three different depths of wood, and six levels of torching. … That’s right — these blocks are torched at varying degrees, not stained. It’s called the Shou Sugi ban —or Yakisugi — method. Each piece is finished with Rubio Monocoat to protect.

The custom-made metal sign was laser cut, backlit with LEDs and hung on standoffs. It was made with steel and finished with an acid wash for the perfect blackened steel look next to the concrete beam and light fixture.
